Insert symbol crashes word XP. This problem occurs to all users on the
machine.
I already the following to fix the problem.
1)repair office
2)unistall and reinstall office
3)changed the default print driver to the Adobe PDF writer.
4)deleted normal.dot from the user currently logged in (although it
shouldn't matter as it occurs to all users on the machine.)
5)Took many but far from all of the fonts out of the windows font folder.

Try deleting the installed printer driver (the default Windows printer),
make sure it is the latest driver from he manufacturer's support site, and
then reinstall the printer.

I tried deleted the printer drivers and installing a HP4 printer driver and
making it the default it didn't help any.

Start Word in Safe Mode and test inserting a symbol. From Start, Run type in
winword /a
and press enter. Test inserting a symbol and let me know what happens
please.

Try deleting the Word DataKey. From the Run dialog, type in
Regedit
and press enter. Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Office9\Word\Data and delete it.
Word will automatically recreate it when it is restarted.
