Help
Windows XP. Office 2003 Sp3 randomly will not print from excel
Email/word etc print OK. When you print you get the "now printing" dialouge
box, but nothing comes off. No jobs stuck or on error in the print queue.
User has access to networked RICOH copier and a HP M1522. If you print to the
1522 it wont print, then to the RICOH it will, then try again to the M1522 it
will print OK.
This happes for both new sheets and sheets recieved via email
Once you get it printing, and you try and print a sheet thats come via an
outlook attachment, it will stop printing again. This is true either opened
straight from outlook or saved to desktop.
Before the user got his M1522 and you tried straight to the RICOH, that
wouldnt print.
Have tried reinstall excel, office and drivers to no avail.
Weird thing is another PC had the same issue, but an excel reinstall appears
to work.

Any help would be appreciated

Albion, I am experiencing the same problem on several users throuought the
group of companies that I work for. the printer used varies, but there are
three constants.
1./ The spreadsheet arrived via email (we use office 2003).
2./ If you print the spreadsheet to a printer other than your default, it
prints.
3./ If you change your default, it will then print to the printer it
originally failed to print to.

Patching to Office 2003 sp3 and running a detect and repair has fixed a few,
but not all. Hopefully Microsoft will pick up on this if enough of us note
the existence of the problem...

Has anyone had any luck fixing this? I have about 1000 users experiencing
this problem!

Has anyone had any luck with this problem. I have about 1000 users so can't
manually reinstall Excel on them all.

Thanks, K

I had the same problem with Excel for months. The printer would make a noise,
and then just stop like the job was finished. No errors, nothing. Could print
to other network printers fine. Looked all over the web, nothing helped. Was
just about to throw my printer out the door and noticed something strange.
Every time for some reason when I went to print certain excel documets, the
printing properties would change the print quality to best? I changed it back
to fast draft like I print 90% of my documents, and It has worked every time
for me. It still changes only on certain documents for some reason. I have to
manually change it, and it prints, Hallilugha I can print again. I don't know
the odds of any one else having the same problem, but it is worth a shot.

We had problems with printing Excel docs here, especially printing multi-tab
docs all at once. It came down to 2 settings that are set on a per-tab basis
(grrr).

Go to Excel Page Setup under the File menu item. Select the "Options"
button. On the Setup tab of the dialog that appears:
1) Job Type should read "Normal Print", not "Locked Print" or "Stored Print"
2) Uncheck the "Ignore application collate".

Changing those two settings also caused the Excel main dialog to change
"Print Quality" from blank to 600dpi which helped with our grey-shading.

Also on the Option buttion, we changed the Duplex option to "Open to top"
from "Open to Left" since this had been the default on our previous printer.
With that we could flip the pages up in front of us at meetings when there
was limited elbow room.

These options were all interacting with Excel. Excel will detect
significant changes in the print options of tabs (worksheets) and generate
independent print tasks causing a number of down-stream effects like extra
cover pages and intermittent duplex failures.
