Hi all,
I've currently got a problem with the Excel 2007. i'll try to describe the
problems as i found them.
Customer service has 2 seperate instances of Excel open, they copy from one
xlsx spreadsheet to another xlsx spreadsheet (seperate instances)
the first time they copy somehting it works fine
the second time they copy somehting it will coppy the cell structure, but
the content will be empty
from this i thought it might have been a clipboard error, but the clipboard
works perfectly well in most cases.
I asked around the office if this happened to anyone else, and it hasen't so
i tried looking at why...
We've recently updated from office 2003 to office 2007 and customer service
is one of the few sections that have updated their spreadhseets to Excel
2007, this isn't unique but they are the only ones that are copying from a
converted excel document into another converted excel document.
After the user playign around for a bit he found out that it took maybe 20
copy / pastes between the 2 instances of Excel before one of them would
corrupt.
When it corrupts it comes up with this message
Excel found unreadable content in 'MyExcelDocument.xlsx', Do you want to
recover the contents of this workbook?
If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.
Clicking no will stop everything, clicking Yes will bring up a further error
message box with
Repais to ''MyExcelDocument.xlsx'
Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable
contnet.
Removed records: Style from /xl/styles.xml part (Styles)
Removed Records: Format from /xl/styles.xml part (Styles)
and as you can guess from the error message the spreadsheet is stripped of
all the formatting finance have done on the spreadsheet, this is quit
unacceptable for them as the formatting means as much as the data inside of
it does... eg red is high priority, green is low priority ect.
Can anybody suggest to me a way to fix this problem?

Try NOT using two instances.

Has anyone ever found a fix for Marvin's issue?
We are having exactly the same problem since we upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007.

The only thing I can suggest is not to use more than one instance of Excel i.e. all spreadsheets in the same window. I know this is a workaround but this is what I've suggested so far to users where I work.
Has anyone tried installing Office 2007 service pack 2 ?

I am not sure. How can I tell if we have installed that service pack. You used to be able to go to Help/About Excel to tell the version but in 2007 I can't find that.

Unfortunately the easy way finding this out in 2003 has changed in 2007 except that you can still do it in Outlook 2007 i.e. got to the Help menu option in Outlook 2007 and then click About Microsoft Office Outlook.
In Excel 2007 you can click on the Office Button (top right hand ball object), then Excel Options, then Resources, the About to get the same thing.
If there's no reference to any service pack i.e. nothing starting with SP then no service pack is installed otherwise it should have SP1 or SP2.

I'm having exactly the same problem as described . . . being able to copy/paste about 20 times, and then on the 21st time getting the error message and losing the formatting. I read the possible solution (SP2) and checked . . . we do have that. So I'm not sure that is the solution.
What I have to do is shut my computer down, and re-start it. Then I can complete the copy/paste process for the other 8 worksheets in my report.
This is a real nuisance . . . so if anyone has another suggestion let me know. Not having two instances of Excel open is not an option, as I'm copying/pasting from individual station workbooks, into a consolidated one . . .
Thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy in what was happening . . . lol
