Trying to use my Outlook 2007 (Vista) contact list as my Word 2007 Address
Book for merging. The file is currently under my Personal Folders/Address
Book but Word is not picking it up to load. Should it be somewhere else in
my folder list?

It is usually best to initiate the Mailmerge from Outlook.

See the "Mailmerge from Outlook" item on fellow MVP Graham Mayor's website

Is Outlook the default e-mail application? The address book will be ignored
otherwise.
If the contacts list is not the default contacts list in Outlook, check its
Outlook Address Book property is flagged.
