Hi,
I have embedded an Excel object into my Word document (both 2003) and
I would like to link a cell from this object into the document itself
as part of a narrative. I can get it to work by opening up the object
and copying the cell I want to link. I then do a paste special - paste
link - and select formatted text (RTF). When I go back and change some
of the values in the Excel object the cell in question changes in the
Excel object as well as in the narrative so it is working. The issue
is when I close and reopen the document. I get this error.
"Objects in this document contain links to files that cannot be found.
The linked information will not be updated."
I figured by embedding the Excel object into Word, all the links would
be self contained in the document. That way I can send this file out
and not worry about external links. Is this a correct assumption?
What is the best way to go about fixing this issue?

Hi,
Although what you're doing is sound in theory, it doesn't work in practice. The only practical way around it is to have an external
Excel worksheet and link to that in both cases.
As for being able to move the document and Excel file around, you need to force Word to use relative paths. To do that, check out
the solution I've posted at:

You'll need to use the macro attached to that post.
