Post subject: Disappearing custom.dic Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>spelling>grammar (more info?)
(Using Word 2003 with Windows XP)
Twice, now, my custom.dic file has self destructed. Both times it started
with the "The custom dictionary is full..." error message. When I went to
check the dictionary, which had been working a fe minutes earlier, Windows
Explorer told me that the file size was 0. Likewise, opening it in TextPad
revealed an empty file.
I've read the KB article on this,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291176/en-us. Figuring it might be damaged
Spell Checker files, I tried to repair them. But when I searched for
msspell3.dll and Mssp3en.lex files, neither were found. When I tried to do a
spell check, the spell checker opened just fine (step 9 told me I'd get an
error.)
Any idea what might be going on, or how to stop this from happening again?

Obvious but need to check: these files are hidden and if you dont have "Show
hidden files and folders" option selected in Folder Options in Tools on
Windows Explorer you will not find them.
Come back if you have further need.
Hope this helps

Thanks. A useful thing to point out, but I'm aware of hidden files. I have my
folders set to show all files, and my search trolls hidden and system files.
msspell3.dll and Mssp3en.lex are not to be found.
