I'm using Word 2003 to prepare a document which has lots of code
fragments in it. I have a Code paragraph style which is use for
blocks of code between paragraphs of normal text and I have an Inline
Code character style which I used for a word or two of code in the
middle of a sentence. Both have "Do not check spelling or grammar"
checked in the Language box. The paragraph style doesn't check
spelling or grammar but the character style does (my document is
decorated with lots of squiggly underlines). Is this just broken or
am I doing something wrong?

What I found when I tried to create a No Proofing character style was that
you can't just add "Do not check..." to Default Paragraph Font; it doesn't
"take" until you specify a language. The concept of specifying a language
*not* to check is a little bizarre and unintuitive, but that's what it takes
to get the style to work.

Thank you! That did the trick.

It's so unintuitive. I believe I do point this out, though, in the Important
Note at
