Post subject: Courier Font Question Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>printingfonts (more info?)
Greetings. I am using VISTA and Office 2007 / MS Word.
I need to align rows of text (not necessarily for printing, but for on
screen viewing), such as follows:
For score and seven years ago ...
Four score and ten years ago ...
For score and fifteen years ago ...
Now I deliberately exaggerated the mis-alignments above to illustrate the
problem. Now if I use the Courier font, a fixed-spacing font, the alignment
is OK, of course. But the font itself is kind of unsightly.
Are there any other fonts available or any other method I could use to make
sure the rows (and particular words) are properly aligned, to look like this
(not exactly aligned, because of the fonts I have to use in this post, but
you get the point, I'm sure)?:

For score and fifteen years ago ...

Any "monospaced" font will serve your purposes. Another common one is Letter
Gothic (comes in most HP LaserJets), but Office also includes Lucida Sans
Typewriter (and I think Lucida Console may also be monospaced). They're all
pretty ugly, of course.
Another way to align specific words is with tab stops, but of course you'd
have to set specific tab stops for specific paragraphs to get the desired
effect.

All the above are ugly, but you can download the better-looking Consolas.

In addition to Suzanne's suggestions, setting your text in tables
might also do the job
Consolas, as suggested by Stephen Diamond, is quite nice and comes
with Office 2007 and/or Vista.
Other attractive monospaced fonts include:
Anonymous (Mark Simonson)
Arial Monospace (Agfa/Monotype)
Base Mono (Emigre - with a variety of widths available)
Monofonto (Ray Larabie)
Monospace 821 (Bitstream)
Unispace (Ray Larabie)
There are also a few serif monospaced fonts, . They include
Dactylographe (Match Software, M. Bujardet) The best of the lot
Courier New Bold really doesn't look all that bad
CenturySchoolbookBT-Monospaced family (Bitstream)
And there's a large number of typewriter-style fonts, simulating
almost every typewriter ever made. Googling for typewriter fonts will
find them.
On the uglier side, there are 'terminal' fonts, simulating an
assortment of older crt's and dot matrix printers. Don't think you
want to go there

The file also contains other fonts.
