Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>customization>menustoolbars (more info?)

We have a normal.dot file that was created many years ago (in Office 97) by
someone who is not there anymore. The custom AutoText entries are grouped by
category. When you click the AutoText button on the toolbar you see
sub-menu's that you can click on with the entries grouped together. We need
to make modifications to the text, but I cannot figure out how to maintain
the grouping. Any help is appreciated.

AutoText entries are categorized by style. Create your entry in the desired
style, and it will be placed accordingly.

Is this the only way to produce groupings of autotext entries?

It's the only way to do it in Word 2003 and earlier. In Word 2007,
where AutoText becomes just one of many galleries in the Quick Parts
feature, you can assign categories (which you can make up on the fly)
which have nothing to do with the styles.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the quick response! Curse my company for
being stuck in 2003!

In Word 2003 autotext entries are grouped by the paragraph styles that apply
to the autotexts as you save them. There are plenty who would curse
employers more for changing to Office 2007.
