Help! I have a Presentation that uses Freehand 591 in selected areas. I
packaged on a CD, have a password for modifying, Files are included by
default, and need to send it to people who have different computers and
versions. All are windows 98 2000 or XP. When they open the CD, they click
for rview, then for read only and then when it opens the Freehand 591 font
has been changed to another font and is a mess.
I thought that since Freehand was on my PowerPoint, the file for that font
would automatically be packaged and everyone could read it. Can someone
please help or I am going to have hours this weekend changing to something
else that won't be nearly as nice!

No, PPT won't include fonts when you package, but depending on the font, you
may be able to embed it in the PPT file, which'll get you where you need to be.
In PPT 2003, for example, you'd choose File, Save As then click the Tools
button and choose Save Options. You'll find font embedding settings on the
resulting dialog box.
It's up to the font manufacturer whether the font is embeddable or not.
I've got a rather old copy of Freehand521 that's enabled for Print & Preview
embedding; that'd allow other people to open, view and print the file but
unless they also own Freehand521, the file will open Read-only and won't allow
them to edit it.
If that's no acceptable, you'll need to change fonts. It's not as horrible as
you might think though ... choose Format, Replace Fonts. Pick Freehand521 in
the upper list box, choose another font in the lower one and click OK. That's
about it for most normal presentations.

Thanks Steve,
I discovered that wonderful little font changing tool today. Its very easy.
I'm thinking about using Brush Script MT. Do you know off hand if that is
very common? I hate to use arial or another plain script for aesthetic
reasons, but I also don't want problems again if someone doesn't have that
font.
Now I just have to figure out how to package so everyone can open. What I've
done so far doesn't work, but I think because it was created in office 2007,
that whoever is trying to open the Presentation (a password to modify/Read
only file), needs to have downloaded the office 2007 compatibility file which
has a link in the package. Does that sound right?
Have a great weekend!

More so than Freehand521 for sure. I've got it here w/o having gone out of my way
to install it. It doesn't come with Windows but is included in several versions of
Office.
Handy site, though quite out of date, for this kind of question:

Not sure ... using Package for CD should have converted the 2007 file to the
97-2003 format, which wouldn't require that the recipient have the compatibility
pack.
