Archived from groups: macromedia>dreamweaver (more info?)

Hi,
I would very much appreciate if someone can tell me, step by step, how to have
an MP3 start on page load, with a stop button available on that page. I've
followed the User's guide, and when I click play in the property inspector, the
message says "Unable to find the plugin which handles this media type.
Dreamweaver looks in both the Configurations/Plugin folder, and the plugins
folder for each of your installed browsers." I use IE6, and can hear the
background music on other people's sites, so it seems that plugin is somewhere
on my PC. Is it a matter of putting it where DW can see it? I'm stuck...
Thanks so much! Savannah

Thanks so much, Mikey! Been searching through the archive and realized that
some people throw fruit at you if you say you want music on load. But I'm a
musician, and people visit for the songs...thanks again for your help!

Hi guys,

My problem is that I have background music playing on my home page that loops
(intentionally), but when I click back on to the

home page from any of the other pages on my website, the background loop
starts again from the beggining and ends up playing on

top (compunding) on the original music from the initial home page. How do I
prevent this from happening? I am using Dreamweaver 8.:confused;

That's truly unfortunate. There's not much that is more annoying than that.

> How do I prevent this from happening?

There would only be one way - to use frames. That's definitely jumping from
the frying pan into the fire, though.

Another option is to embed a music player in a plain vanilla pop-up page as
in this example. Press the Music Player button.

Thanks Guys,

I am already using frames as Murray suggested i.e, that all my links (pages)
open in a new browser window using _blank from my home page. This works all
fine, the background music begins when people first enter the home page and it
keeps looping whilst they keep opening other links and exploring my website but
its only if they choose to click back to the "home" page which opens up another
new browser window as per the _blank that the problem reveals itself i.e, that
the music starts to play from the beggining and is heard on top of the music
playing already from the first home page. So in effect for the user to cut this
annoying thing out they haveto either close the initial browser all together or
turn down the volume.

See - you have designed a nightmare both for yourself and your visitors.
Once you decided to have music playing whether they ask for it or not, you
are committed to struggling with these issues.

The simple way is to have a 'music' link on the home page. Have it open a
little player window that plays the music (and can be closed with the
visitor is sick of it), and make all of your site links NOT open a new
window. But better yet would be not to use music.

A few comments.

First, please don't hijack threads - your problem is only vaguely related to
the original.
Next, replying to a 2 year old thread is usually a bad idea. Folks in nntp
land probably don't even see the original context.
Finally, don't edit your posts in the forum to add more content. These changes
are not propagated to nntp and break the thread continuity

Now, to answer your question we can either play 20 questions or take a look at
the site. Do you have a url?

Dear Bregent,

point taken but just to clarify I "have not" intentionally highjacked any
threats here, I'm just a newby getting used to navigating on this forum
interface. thats all. As much as I wanted to point you "Guy's" to the url so
that you could get an idea, but I am unable to do so out of NDA restrictions
with my client until the site is completed and published. So anyhow just to
make it easier can you please point me to a reference where I can read about
this issue and how to correct it since I dont wish to "burden" anyone with 20
questions.

Further to Bergents comment,

Firstly When I initially made a "Category Search" on this forum regarding
Background music I only got the "savannahtaylor" threat and nothing else. Since
then there is now apparently a 2008 threat by
"Tumdiedum User is offline Junior Member Posts: 2 Joined: 03/14/2008". I now
understand why Bergents
made the comment to me that, "don't hijack threads - your problem is only
vaguely related to the original.
Next, replying to a 2 year old thread is usually a bad idea."

Secondly, When Bregent said that, "...Finally, don't edit your posts in the
forum to add more content. These changes are not propagated to nntp and break
the thread continuity...". My question is, why have an "Edit" option if one is
not allowed to edit! its ridicculous wouldnt you say.

I was under the impression when joining that this forum deals with trying to
solve Adobe Dreamveaver issues
but I was obviously mistaken since it appears that we have a degree of
"bitching" going on in here instead by someone who was not breast fed as a
child Smile

Good Luck, Cheers....
