Nice thing is that right now I can't reproduce it either. But I bet it happens again, at that time I will try to find out what exactly does the difference.

I'll get back to you then.

I just had the same exact experience as NiemiOn.
The file I have been working on for a while just got DELETED by DW?!?!

I have been able to replicate the error:

1. Open a saved file with a large query in DW
2. Open the page (with the large query) on your localhost (iis)
3. STOP the page while it is processing
4. Make a simple change to the file in DW and try to save it (it won't let you)
5. Enjoy the "Acces to [filepath]\%%%%%%.tmp was denied" error message.
5. Close the file without saving the changes
6. Try to reopen the file (hint - it's gone.)

I seems that DW is creating some kind of .TMP file from the original,
then denying access and deleting BOTH.

I am also running Vista. Any thoughts?

-Sergio

Are you previewing with temp files enabled?

Hi Sergio

I just experienced this problem myself yesterday. I got this error:

Access to C:\mysite\MFC18E.tmp was denied. [OK]

I did see the file disappear from the Files panel after I clicked OK. I
then did a Save As and saved the file with the same name in the same folder
and it saved fine. Definitely a problem, but try doing Save As if/when it
happens again.

I'll file a bug, but I don't think I can reproduce it at will. Can you
reproduce your error everytime? If so, can you please open an official
Dreamweaver tech support incident and then post back with your incident
number so we can track it?: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/

Thanks,

Post subject: Re: DW CS3 deletes your files

I'm experiencing a different variant of the same problem:

Using Dreamweaver CS3 on Vista Ultimate Edition, I browse across the local
network in to a development server (Win2003 SVR running on VMWare Workstation),
modify a file, and when I attempt to save a file (or save as), I receive the
alert :

"\\[path]\inetroot\test1\MFC7E3.tmp contains an invalid path".

The tmp file name changes each time. The path referenced in this alert
message is has always been valid. The only option is to click OK. The file
I?m attempting to edit is then immediately deleted from the development server.
The file does not appear in the recycle bin.

I can replicate this 100% of the time. This occurs while using site
definitions (which I normally do not use) and without. I tried creating a test
directory, setting the permissions to "everyone" with full control (in case
this was a permissions issue), and the deletions still occurred. I?ve
subsequently discovered that this occurs with ANY files saved by DW CS3 across
the local network (I?ve replicated this on network file shares running on XP,
and a physical Win2003 Server). So far the file types I?ve confirmed the
deletions with are HTM, CFM, & JS.

When saving files using DW CS3 on my local drives (C,D) this problem does not
occur. I also do not receive the ?invalid path? error message when saving to my
local drive..

Using Dreamweaver 8 on XP Pro I was able to create and modify a file (across
my local network) without issue. As soon as I modify and save the same file
using Dreamweaver CS3 it?s gone.

It is indeed a scaring bug. I happens to me all the time. I just create a new
site definition, name it, name the folder, an ooops... Here we go.

Definitely feel like going back to Aptana or Edit++, at least they don't
delete my files.

No thumbs up for your latest version of Dreamweaver.

first, there's a good chance that the problem isn't just in Dreamweaver, but
the combination of Dreamweaver and Vista, and possibly even only Vista.
especially considering that both people who've had this problem are using
Vista. but that's neither here nor there.

what i wanted to suggest is that you try reinstalling DW, if you haven't
already. restarting/rebooting/reinstalling solves a remarkable number of
computer problems, yet it's one of the last things most people consider trying.

good luck!

By looking at patterns of discussions back forth between yourself and other
participants, I get the feeling that you are new to working with Dreamweaver
CS3, no?

Do you really understand how Dreamweaver functions and the purpose of these
features and such functionality comes with the app in (or by) itself? It is
just that the nature of your questions and your not able to troubleshoot, it
tells us that you not fully understand how Dreamweaver works, what to expect of
it to work and what not.

Dreamweaver, like as any kind of software applications, and even computers,
they are practically dumb thing. It waits for you to give it an instruction to
execute the specific task or function to perform whatever you want it to be.

It is just that you didn't really, really don't understand how DW works inside
out. Perhaps that you want to use onscreen help, function key: F1 to get some
help. Or perhaps that you want to buy yourself a good book on how to use
Dreamweaver and get most of Dreamweaver. It is only a suggestion, you decide.

Good luck!
Cheers, Brian

I am experiencing this exact problem - I am not crazy or imagining this
problem; I have 20+ years of experience working with computers, and I have
years of experience with Dreamweaver. I have just installed CS3. I have an
intranet site that resides on a windows 2000 machine on my network. I have
complete access (and always have) to the server and all files.

I am able to open and edit any and all pages with Dreamweaver CS3. However -
when I ctrl-s to save, this is the error: "Access to (drive/file path/random
filename).tmp was denied." The only choice is OK. Upon selecting ok, after
approx. 30 seconds the ORIGINAL version of my file on the server disappears!
This happens whether just saving or saving as...

Needless to say, this is annoying. If you can offer real help please do. If
you insist I am deleting files or moving them with imaginary brain commands,
don't bother responding. This is obviously an issue with how Dreamweaver uses
tmp files. Thanks!

Hi Krystina

What does your site definition look like for Local and Remote? Can you
reproduce the problem at will or is it random? Can you reproduce the
problem in DW 8? What OS are you using DW on?

Thanks,

Dear Deaf Web Designer, that is possibly the most non-usable answer to a thread
I have read in quite a while.

I find it kind of obvious that you haven't read most of this this thread.

Please refer to the book that explain how to handle this problem?

Hello,

I think you should do CHKDSK [drive] /F to check your filesystem's drive. If
you got errors, maybe that is filesystem fault to delete your files. I'm usual
to do this trick if an application not working correctly with files, and usual
success.

moxsr1nd4, that doesn't solve anything. I have experienced this on several
fresh installations of Vista and I have formatted the drive in question many
times since.

I have just discovered that this error has nothing to do with Dreamweavers way
of handling "Sites". I just got the same error just working with a .css file
that wasn't defined anywhere in the program, I just opened it and saved it
numerous times and the error occur.

I'm hoping Adobes developers are soon having a patch ready for this. If not
Adobe can't really claim Dreamweaver CS3 or any of your suits containing it, to
be "Vista ready".

[b]This appens on Vista when you edit a file in dreamweaver that is still
selected in your Explorer windows.[/b]
Only solution, deselect your file and then you'll be able to save it again !

Hope that Adobe or Microsoft will find a solution very soon for that problem
that make me crazy !!
