Alan is correct. DW only does what you tell it to. It would not move
files unless a user, knowingly or unknowingly, gave a command to move files.

The file is not opened elsewhere. Or yes it is, if you count Opera, IE and FF
in, but that's usually no problem. The file IS opened in Dreamweaver, yes.
The file is not READ ONLY as I have been able to save to it various times, and
I haven't changed it since. Why I don't go look if it's read only? Becasue at
the time the prompts pops up, the file is gone.
*UPDATE*
The virus scan just finished, no virus or malware. I found that the content of
the folder I was working in was moved do C:\Users\Niemi\Documents\Webdesign\New
Folder instead of the folder I specified nd worked in
C:\Users\Niemi\Documents\Webdesign\green
This is good news as all the files are there, intact, except for index.html.
I'll start mixing that together again, in the meantime, could any of you
explain why Dreamweaver changes my folder name green to new folder? |

To all sceptical persons out there, look at this screen shot.
http://niemi.it/dwerror.gif
Before this error the index.html is working fine, but after it's deleted,
gone. Now if it isn't Dreamweaver doing this, please tell me who the **** are? |

But your screenshot shows access being denied to a .tmp file - not your
..html file. And the asterisk on the filename tab indicating unsaved
changes isn't there - so I don't understand why you are issuing the Save
command at this point if there are no unsaved changes to the document.
Is it possible this is a Windows (XP? Vista?) issue and not a DW issue?
If DW can't access a file because of permissions, that's an OS issue.
Have you checked file permissions on your folder? Do you have Full Access?
Also - have you changed DW preferences to view temporary files when
previewing? Or are you NOT using temp files to preview?
(Dreamweaver Preferences, Preview In Browser category, Preview Using
Temporary File option)

Also - how about a screenshot of your web browser(s) address bar(s) that
is/are open. Have you tried closing all web browsers and saving the file?

My screen shot shows what happens when you save a file a number of times. Of
course there is no changes to save when I have just saved 30 times in a row.
But the error happens both when there are changes to save and when there are no
changes to save. I'm saving [ctrl + s] directly to my .html file not a shitty
..tmp file. You have to ask the gods why DW CS3 suddenly yells up about
unwritable .tmp files.
If it's possibly it's a Vista error? It's possibly Dreamweaver has some
serious problems with Vista, yes.
If I have full access to my folder? Yes!
If I'm using temp files to view my preview? No, I'm not using preview as it's
the most unstable and unreliable feature in DW. I'm viewing my file directly in
the browser like this:
IE7: C:\Users\Niemi\Documents\Webdesign\green new\footer.html
Opera:
file://localhost/C:/Users/Niemi/Documents/Webdesign/green%20new/footer.html
FF: file:///C:/Users/Niemi/Documents/Webdesign/green%20new/footer.html
If I have tried closing my browsers before saving? NO! By gods grace no. If
that is what it takes - hello Aptana, hello EditPlus. |

It's all part of the troubleshooting process. Close all browsers and see
if the problem is solved or not. That helps narrow down the cause.

Alright then.
I tried closing all browsers before saving. The problem persists. |

That is a Windows Vista permissions problem.

I have seen this before, if I recall its when you create a folder in the dw
files list and then rename the folder using the DW file list, DW updates the
name of the folder in the list but fails to rename it in the file system.
Chances are you made "new folder" in dw using the files panel, worked on the
file a while with no problems, then renamed the folder to "green" dw updated
it in the list but failed to rename it on the disk, then when you tried to
save the file dw could not save it to the green folder because no green
folder existed on the disk.
This has happened to me a couple of times but not always.

You can try to delete the DW site definition, then recreate it. Or -
rebuild the site cache. Just things to try.

You all are probably smarter than I am. But I suspect the site definition
included a path that says /New Folder. That's pretty common when you first
create a new site definition. And, if the user then goes and opens the html
file in another location, like using file/open or double-clicking in Windows
Explorer or the Mac Finder, there could be a problem, no?

The thought of me creatung this "new folder" really turns a lot of you guys on.
Let me cut this one out: I DID NOT CREATE, NOT DW-WISE NOT WINDOWS-WISE, A
FOLDER CALLED "NEW FOLDER".
I have tried this again, and it happens from time to time when I follow this
procedure:
Open DW CS9
Manage Sites
New > SIte
Sitename = Something
Local root folder = C:\Users\Niemi\Documents\Webdesign\Some Nice Folder Name
"OK"
Right click in the files window where my Something site shows up > New File >
rename it to index.html
Double click this recently created .html file
Make a small change (no matter what, it allows you to save)
Press [CTRL +S] a lot of times
Wait for a screen looking like http://niemi.it/tmp.gif
At this time your recently saved .html file is gone, navigate to the local
folder and see it with your own eyes
You can "Save As" index.html once again, but during the evening when you
"save" the .html a lot of times the drill repeats |

Cannot reproduce it here:

I hit CTRL + S over 200 times
