Issue
Some Intel-based Macintosh users are reporting performance problems with Adobe
Dreamweaver CS3. Some of the symptoms include Dreamweaver freezing for 2-60
seconds when opening files and performing basic actions in the Dreamweaver user
interface, like typing text, selecting table elements, and scrolling up and
down.
There are two scenarios where this problem occurs:
* You are using a remote server as the Local Root Folder in the Site
Definition and your files have several images.
* You are using your local hard drive as the Local Root Folder in the Site
Definition and your files have several images or have external images
referenced with absolute paths.
(Ref. 227126, 227108, 227272)
Reason
Dreamweaver CS3 has a problem processing images with certain files on
Intel-based Macs. The more images the file contains, the more noticeable the
problem is. If you can reproduce this problem with a page that does not contain
any images, then this TechNote does not address the problem you are seeing.
Solution
Adobe is aware of this problem and is researching it. Dreamweaver CS3 has a
native binary for Intel-based Macs, so in general it is much faster than
previous versions of Dreamweaver on Intel-based Macs, but there appears to be
an image processing problem with some setups.
Solution 1
If you are using a remote machine as the Local Root Folder in your Site
Definition, use a folder on your local hard drive as the Local Root Folder.
Solution 2
If your pages contain external images, try deselecting View > Display External
Files. External images have absolute URLs for the src path, for example:
http://www.example.com/images/logo.gif.
Solution 3
Run Dreamweaver in Rosetta mode. You will lose performance gains in tasks like
startup time, menu response, etc., but the problem described in this TechNote
should stop. To run Dreamweaver in Rosetta mode, perform these steps:
1. In the Finder, browse to Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS3/Dreamweaver.
2. Select the Dreamweaver application and choose File > Get Info.
3. In the General section, select "Open using Rosetta".
Solution 4
If none of the scenarios above apply to you, please contact Adobe Tech
Support. When contacting Tech Support, please provide answers to the following
questions:
* If you open a page with no images, does the problem still occur?
* For users that have an FTP server connection in their site definition:
if you disconnect from the FTP server, does the problem still occur?
* If you collapse all of the folders in the Files panel, does the problem
still occur?
